My favorite film ever
It all begins with an idea.
A film I can’t stop thinking about. Arrival is a sci-fi film by director Denis Villeneuve, who transported viewers into a world where humanity stands on the brink of a global threat, after unidentified alien objects landed on Earth. The main character, Louise Banks, thus faces the greatest challenge of her life, and it is up to her how she deals with it.
Arrival is a film I first watched in 2022, and it has completely captivated me ever since. It has a very beautiful idea about human perception of time and everyone’s ignorance of our own future. The film, together with the main character, puts us in front of a question that some of us often ask ourselves – would we want to know our future? And if we knew it, would we change anything? Or would we accept it with all its bright and dark sides? All its joys, all its sorrows, all its helplessness, but also all those beautiful moments that we wish could last forever.
It is one of those films that makes you think after the credits roll. It made me think as well. About how sometimes ignorance can be sweet. And that is exactly what makes life life – the unawareness of the next moments. The unawareness of future meetings, friendships, or relationships. That sweet ignorance. Where will it lead us.
Apart from this deep idea about the future, the film is also an example of excellent casting, storyline, and directing. It’s no wonder that critics call it one of the best sci-fi films of the decade. It also didn’t escape an Oscar nomination, where it won for Best Sound Editing. And I warmly recommend that you watch it.
